The solar eclipse is this Monday, it's National Waffle Day and National Dog Day this week, this week in American history Dolley Madison saves the portrait of Washington from British fires, several people represented Kingsbury in Austin during the special legislative session, in Kingsbury news past the February 17, 1888 edition of the Fort Worth Daily Gazette reports that Alice Carpenter of Kingsbury was issued a Texas pension as a "Mexican widow" and there is a challenge between professional walkers with a $1000 stake, the citizen's feedback survey is staying open, Kingsbury T-shirts are available online, this week in 1898 outlaw Killin' Jim Miller joins the Texas Rangers, the county burn ban is still in effect, and a wonderful picture of some girls hanging out at the old Hurt Brothers Garage in the early '40s.

The incoming officers of the Kingsbury 4-H Club were sworn in this week, it's National Left-Hander's Day and National Fajita Day this week, in Kingsbury news past the October 27, 1888 edition of the San Marcos Free Press reports that Mr. Simpson is found out to be an escaped convict and is being returned to a work camp in Kingsbury and the train schedule shows trains either Going North or Going South, gunfighter John Wesley Hardin is killed in El Paso this week in 1895, the burn ban continues, the Kingsbury Aerodrome is having a volunteer work day this Saturday, and a wonderful picture of the Kingsbury 4-H Club float in a parade around 1948.

The Tri-City Flyers are having a model plane event at the Kingsbury Aerodrome on Saturday, it's National Rice Pudding Day and National Book Lovers Day this week, the new month of August is National Catfish Month, this Monday night is the Full Sturgeon Moon, moon facts and folklore, in Kingsbury news past the October 13, 1887 edition of the San Marcos Daily Press recounts a train trip to west Texas through areas written about by Mr. Kingsbury and the meat market has beef for up to 6 cents, the Kingsbury Kids free summertime lunches are still going strong this week, the first picture of Earth from space was taken this week in 1959, London learns of America's Declaration of Independence this week in 1776, the Kingsbury Opry is swingin' every Friday evening, there is a burn ban in effect, a KIC-P2 meeting is this Wednesday, and some great pictures of the Lynch/Glenewinkle house and Lynch family members.

The Newsletter is back after a week hiatus, this week has the first days of August, August facts & folklore, it's National Mutt Day and National Coast Guard Day this week, the Kingsbury Kids Free Summertime Lunch Program continues this week at the Baptist Church, in Kingsbury news past the August 7, 1887 edition of the Galveston Daily Newsreports very poetically about the rain in Kingsbury and the dangerous work of silver mining in Texas, the Kingsbury VFD and Auxiliary meet this week, famed Texas Ranger Ira Aten passed away this week in 1953, the Methodist Church is having an Ice Cream Social on Saturday, Wild Bill Hickok is murdered while playing poker this week in 1876 holding the Dead Man's Hand, Guadalupe County is still under a burn ban, and some great pictures of the Kingsbury Lumber Company in 1916 and the late 1800s.

Humans first stepped onto the surface of the moon this week in 1969, the Kingsbury VFD Bar-B-Q is coming up July 29th, the Kid's Free Summertime Lunch program is going until August 18, it's National Hot Dog Day and National Day of the Cowboy this week, in Kingsbury news past the August 5, 1887 edition of the Fort Worth Daily Gazettereported that Kingsbury voted against a prohibition referendum by 36 votes and people are "doting" on those new-fangled toothpicks from Maine, Revolutionary War naval hero John Paul Jones dies this week in 1792, the next Ice Cream Social is coming up August 5th, a burn ban is now in effect, and wonderful pictures of Budd's Saloon and its patrons.

Queen in old Kingsbury.

It's Father's Day this week, the Summer Solstice Film Festival is coming up this Saturday, the Spring Edition of the Kingsbury Independent is on the street, it's National Take Your Dog To Work Day and National Peaches 'n' Cream Day this week, the Kingsbury Kids Free Summertime Lunch Program is weekdays 11-1 at the Baptist Church, in Kingsbury News Past the May 28, 1887 edition of the Galveston Daily News reports that Kingsbury got a "splendid" rain and Prickly Ash Bitters is quite the cure-all, the summer solstice marking the first day of Summer is this week, the annual Kingsbury VFD Bar-B-Q is coming up July 29th, the Methodist Church is having an Ice Cream Social this Saturday, and a great picture of local girls with a Coke billboard in the 1940s.

The anniversary of the Stars and Stripes and the first Flag Day, this week has National Corn on the Cob Day and National Red Rose Day, The Kingsbury Baptist Church is hosting free Kingsbury Kids Summertime Lunches, the Spring Edition of the Kingsbury Independent is in circulation, the Summer Solstice Film Festival is on the 24th, in Kingsbury news past the May 3, 1887 edition of the Galveston Daily Newsreports that the drouth's back is broken and Kingsbury is in good spirits and the folks in Luling are "wild with joy", the Luling Animal Welfare Society has awesome dogs and kittens needing forever homes, the KVFD Bar-B-Q is coming up in July, volunteer work days at the Pioneer Flight Museum, and a picture of a horse and buggy "filling up" at the gas station.
